Czech food producer Emco enters Polish market – Company News – begins Polish distribution operations – Brief Article

Emco, a leading Czech food producer, is expanding into Poland, reports the Czech business daily Hospodarske Noviny (HN).

After some bureaucratic delays, Emco has opened its Polish branch and begun distributing its products within the independent retail network and also through the international Intermarche, Tesco and Netto chains.

Emco plans to expand either its Polish or Slovak production capacities. Slovakia is still its largest export market. According to company owner Zdenek Jahoda, the deciding factor will be costs and the quality of raw materials.

Emco specialises in the production and distribution of cereals, muesli, corn flakes and instant food.

The company claims a dominant 37% share of the Czech breakfast cereals market.

Annual revenues total CKr500m (16.2m [euro]) in the Czech Republic.

Last year, sales grew 18% year-on-year and turnover reached CKr710m. Emco grossed CKr20m.

In 2002, Emco expects turnover of CKr760m and a gross profit comparable to last year’s.
