Visions of IT spending dancing in their heads – The Antenna – AMD and Intel – Brief Article
RUMOR HAS IT THAT WHEN ADVANCED MICRO DEVICES (AMD) CEO Hector Ruiz delivers his keynote address at Comdex this week, he will disclose that his company’s processors will power the PCs of a major Fortune 500 company. Ruiz has been grooming AMD to grab more of the enterprise pie ever since he took over from Jerry Sanders, AMD founder and chairman, earlier this year.
Also on the IT front, Intel today is touting a Gartner Dataquest study that indicates that Intel-based servers have surpassed RISC-based servers in revenue for the first time. Intel’s x86-based servers have surpassed RISC-based servers in volume for quite a while now, an Intel spokesman said. The spokesman also took the opportunity to single out Sun Microsystems as a RISC-based server supplier.
