Monroe County Bar Assn. evaluates additional judicial candidates

Daily Record Staff

The Monroe County Bar Association released its ratings of three candidates who recently announced their intent to seek election as justice of New York State Supreme Court and Rochester City Court.

The MCBA has a three-tier rating system consisting of “highly qualified,” “qualified” and “not qualified.”

The ratings are as follows:

New York State Supreme Court

* Terrance C. Brown-Steiner – qualified; and

* Clark J. Zimmerman – qualified.

Rochester City Court

* Paul Irving – qualified.

Under normal circumstances, ratings are based on responses to a survey received from lawyers and judges who have had professional experience with each candidate, along with in-depth research and interviews by the bar association’s 27-member Judiciary Committee.

However, since these three candidates announced their intentions only recently, there was insufficient time to conduct a survey. Instead, the Judiciary Committee, in accordance with the rules approved by the MCBA board of trustees, based its evaluation process upon the candidate’s response to a questionnaire and the information obtained from the sources listed by the candidate on the questionnaire, writing samples, the interview and any other information the committee deemed relevant.
