Yahoo! News To Offer Access To Paid Archives From NYTimes.com
NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–May 16, 2002
New York Times Digital, the digital business unit of The New York Times Company, and Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO), a leading global Internet company, today announced that paid archives from NYTimes.com are now available on Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com).
This agreement with NYTimes.com marks the first premium archived news service offered by Yahoo!.
Relevant search results will appear as a paid archive and branded as content from The New York Times. Archived articles dating back to January 1, 2000 may be purchased for $2.50 each, the same price as single archive units on NYTimes.com, and users will complete the transaction on Yahoo! News. In addition, top current news from NYTimes.com will continue to be available through Yahoo! News for free.

New York Times Digital has launched a number of premium initiatives in recent months. NYTimes.com now offers paid streaming videos of The New York Times Critic’s Choice events, featuring interviews with Lou Reed, Martin Scorsese and John Irving. This spring, Boston.com introduced a paid Personals section that garnered more than 8,000 members and one million page views in less than 20 days. Boston.com Personals operates on a debit system that allows users to purchase credits in advance and use them to contact or instant message other members in the network.
