Williams Communications Solutions Adds MCK Voice and Data Products to Its Network Solutions

HOUSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sept. 22, 1998–Williams Communications Solutions, a unit of Williams (NYSE:WMB) and the nation’s largest independent data, voice and video network integration company, today announced a distribution agreement with MCK Communications, Inc., a leading developer of remote voice and data solutions for telecommuters, remote call center agents, executives and branch offices. The agreement calls for Williams to distribute MCK’s EXTender systems. MCK’s award-winning EXTender products enable off-premise workers to seamlessly access corporate voice and data networks over a single telephone line, creating a “virtual office” for the remote worker.

MCK’s EXTender System products provide access to the complete feature set of a corporate PBX (private branch exchange) or key system and data network. Using the same digital phone set or computer-telephony interface, remote workers can use four-digit dialing, conferencing, transferring, paging, voice mail ACD and call accounting features while simultaneously accessing the LAN or an Internet Service Provider over a single POTS, ISDN or leased line.

“As data and voice networks converge and remote access to corporate services increases, our expertise in end-to-end communications is expanding to include the best product solutions available in today’s marketplace,” said Jim Greenway, vice president of marketing for Williams Communications Solutions. “With MCK EXTenders, we can provide our Nortel Meridian, Norstar and NEC customers with a crucial capability – seamless remote data and voice access.”

Williams will carry the full line of MCK EXTender system models for Nortel Meridian, Norstar and NEC switches. Selections include 1000, an analog solution; 2000, an ISDN solution; 2000C, a Centrex/ISDN solution; and the newly released 3000-Series products, single-box, ISDN solutions with either Ethernet, Serial or Terminal Adapter interfaces for data connectivity.

By the year 2000, industry analysts predict there will be over 20 million remote workers in the United States. Growth is also strong in the call center market, which is growing at more than 20 percent annually and is increasingly using remote agents to attract and retain staffing. In order for off-premises workers to remain productive, they will require access to the same productivity tools they rely on at headquarters. MCK’s products are already used by Williams, Williams’ customers and by call centers in all industries, including travel, finance, customer service and insurance. The company’s products have won Best of Show at CT Expo and Editors’ Choice from CTI Magazine, and they were featured at the prestigious DEMO 98 conference.

“The Williams relationship enables MCK to offer its remote voice and recording technology through the nation’s largest independent voice and data network integration company, which is also the largest Nortel equipment and service provider,” stated Woody Benson, MCK president and CEO. “By leveraging Williams’ customer base, excellent service capabilities and full range of products, we can bring our solutions to the broadest range of customers as the market for remote voice services explodes.” About MCK Communications, Inc.
