Results from the latest round of drilling at the Warintza prospect in the Corriente Copper Belt in southeast Ecuador indicate continued expansion of the central mineralized zone.

The target of this drilling program was to identify an area of high-grade secondary copper that could prove important for the economics of any potential mining operation in the region (target size is greater than 50,000,000 tonnes with a grade of 1% copper equivalent). Excellent progress was made towards this objective with secondary copper intersections noted in almost all of the holes that were drilled within the central mineralized zone (see map at Website). A total of sixteen holes totalling over 4100 metres have been completed in this phase of drilling and the results from the central mineralized zone are available in the table below. Holes W-18 and W-19 were drilled in the low-grade halo to the north of the central mineralized zone and holes W-26 to W-29 were drilled to the south (results from these holes are available at the Website). The best hole from within the central mineralized zone is W-32 with an intersection of 252 metres of 0.85% copper, 0.13 g/t gold and 0.03% molybdenum (1.03% copper equivalent) from a depth of 45 to 297 metres.

All drill holes are vertical. Copper equivalent is calculated using a formula where 1 g/t Au is equivalent to 0.5% copper and molybdenum is converted to a percentage and then multiplied by four and added to copper grade.

For completeness, results from the first round of drilling, which was completed last March, are shown below (holes from the main mineralized zone are included).

These results outline a central mineralized core at Warintza which trends approximately east-west with dimensions of 350 X 800 metres. This central core has significant resources of copper mineralization that averages greater than 0.5% copper and could be added to any copper development operations in the region.

Most of this central zone is overlain by a high-grade blanket of chalcocite-enriched material that averages over 1% copper equivalent grade and has a typical thickness of 30 to 60 metres. Drill targets are being prepared at sites in Warintza West and Warintza East which have a similar geological setting to Warintza Central and are part of a major cluster of copper porphyry bodies that appears to have an overall east-west trend, extending along a distance of four kilometres.

Drilling in the Corriente Copper Belt over the last twenty months by Corriente has totalled approximately 28,000 metres in 125 diamond drill holes. Exploration in the region to date has identified four prospects with significant total copper resources and in addition, numerous drill targets remain to be tested in the Belt. Development of the project over the next period will include evaluation of copper resources from the Warintza area together with two nearby project areas in the north part of the Corriente Copper Belt (Panantza and San Carlos). This will allow the three areas to be considered as one large mineralized system with potential economies of scale applicable to the expanded operation.
