VTEL Enhances Customer Protection Plan; Free Software for New ESA System Purchases Upgrades Current Product Line to New Galaxy Platform
AUSTIN, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Oct. 12, 1999–
Can customers seeking the benefits of videoconferencing today feel protected in a world of quickly changing technologies?
The answer is a definite yes, says VTEL(R) Corporation (Nasdaq:VTEL).
With its new Galaxy(tm) videoconferencing systems ready to roll off the manufacturing line, VTEL today announced that customers who purchase a product from the company’s current Enterprise Series (ESA) between Sept. 15 and the end of the year will receive a complimentary Galaxy software upgrade.
The no-cost upgrade is an update to VTEL’s Investment Protection program, or VIP. In addition to providing free Galaxy software, the VIP program allows customers to migrate to Galaxy at their own pace, and ensures VTEL customers have the latest products, services and support for their video networks.
“VTEL is committed to protecting its customers and their investments,” said Steve Gannon, director of product marketing. “Providing the free Galaxy software upgrade enables those customers ready to take advantage of videoconferencing today to have access to the latest software when it becomes available. The VIP program is a way for our customers to benefit from videoconferencing technology immediately — comfortable in the knowledge they are covered for our next generation product line.”
For VTEL’s top-of-the-line ESA products such as the LC 5000 and the TC 2000, customers will receive all of the unique Galaxy user controls, in addition to the software upgrade with an H.323 option. For the TC 1000 and TC 2000 models, customers will receive the software kit and an option to purchase Galaxy controls at half of the retail price. When new ESA systems are purchased with an extended three-year warranty, customers will receive free installation of the software upgrade.
The VIP program offers the security and investment protection customers need. Galaxy’s software represents an innovative, friendly user interface that is in step with the `look and feel’ of contemporary technology. The system’s intuitive interface is designed to greatly enhance the user’s experience as well as increase connectivity options.
Galaxy comes standard with H.323 connectivity features to allow easy attachment for video over Internet protocol and H.320 support. The Galaxy family of products, based on VTEL’s fourth-generation PC architecture, includes basic to full-featured models to meet anyone’s group videoconferencing needs or budget.
