UnitedHealth Group Chief of Medical Affairs Reed Tuckson, MD, Participates in Senate “Health Reform Summit”

WASHINGTON — Reed V. Tuckson, M.D., executive vice president and chief of medical affairs, UnitedHealth Group, today participated in the U.S. Senate Finance Committee’s “Prepare for Launch: Health Reform Summit” at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. The summit is part of a year-long series of events sponsored by the committee to prepare for congressional action on health reform in 2009.

“High quality, cost-effective health care requires that individuals receive the right care, at the right time, and at the right place. To make this happen we have to focus on (1) the appropriateness of the resources we deploy; (2) the technology we rely on; and (3) the ways in which we engage consumers,” Dr. Tuckson said during a panel on insurance market reform.

He added, “UnitedHealth Group has many initiatives underway to help in this regard, many of which focus on innovation in benefit design, improving care coordination, the widespread adoption of health information technology, and providing consumers with the information they need to make the most informed decisions.”

Dr. Tuckson expressed UnitedHealth Group’s commitment to working with health care stakeholders to develop solutions that ensure all Americans have access to affordable, quality health care. “We are eager to contribute our experience and expertise to this national dialogue on health reform,” he said.
