Schrader Addresses the Role of Securing the Internet

in Enabling a Knowledge-based Global Economy

Trend Micro Inc. (Nasdaq:TMIC), a leading provider of enterprise antivirus and content security for the Internet age, today announced that Dan Schrader, the company’s chief security risk analyst, will deliver a presentation to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC 2000).

Schrader will address the role that securing the Internet from malicious code, including viruses, trojans and worms, will play in enabling a knowledge-based global economy. Schrader will also participate in a Ministerial Round-table Breakfast on computer viruses and the threat they pose to the new economy with UN Environment Program Director Adnan Amin. The event will be held July 5-7, 2000 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

“A knowledge-based economy is built on trust,” Schrader said. “Trust that you can hook your computer into a broader network; trust that you can share information across that network; and trust that you can safely transact commerce. Viruses and other malicious code compromise this trust relationship, ultimately threatening the growth and success of the Internet and the knowledge-based global economy as a whole.”

The theme for ECOSOC 2000 is “Development and International Cooperation in the 21st Century: the role of information technology in a knowledge-based economy.” ECOSOC 2000 will be attended by senior government officials having the responsibility for Information Technology and Communications from a host of member states.

As Chief Security Risk Analyst, Schrader brings more than 12 years of software and hardware development experience to Trend Micro, particularly in security-related fields. At Trend Micro, Schrader’s main responsibility is to analyze existing and potential future computer security risks to ensure the most up-to-date products and services for the company’s customers and to convey accurate information to the public at large.
