The Press Club of Cleveland Honors This Year’s Excellence in Journalism Winners
Business Editors
CLEVELAND–(BUSINESS WIRE)–June 22, 2001
Ohio’s Best Newspaper, Best Cartoonist, Best Photographer, and Best Columnist are among the almost 250 award winners to receive top honors from the Press Club of Cleveland.
This year’s 23rd annual Excellence in Journalism competition honors cartoonists, print and electronic reporters, artists, freelancers and photographers.
The competition drew 1,124 entries from a variety of daily and non-daily newspapers, radio and television stations, and trade and business publications. Work was submitted across the competition’s categories: daily newspaper, non-daily newspaper, new media, radio, television, business publications, trade publications, magazines, print visuals, photography and open print.
“The categories for this year’s competition were changed allowing print journalists, artists and photographers to compete against each other,” said M. Jane Christyson, one of the competition’s co-chairs. “The results show that there are examples of excellence in all manner of general circulation, trade and business publications from the smallest daily newspaper to the glossy magazine monthlies and the weekly tabloids.”
Each entry is passed on to a panel of judges comprised of professionals from the following clubs and organizations:
Chattanooga Press Club
Houston Press Club
Los Angeles Press Club
Medill School of Journalism- Northwestern University
Milwaukee Press Club
New Orleans Press Club
Orange County (Calif.) Press Club
Peninsula Press Club, San Mateo, Calif.
