Telepresence 3D Endoscopy Systems Sold for Field Trials in the People’s Republic of China
BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–July 7, 1998–International Telepresence(R) (Canada) Inc. (“ITLP”) announced today that it has received an order from Shanghai Zhongshan Medical, Science and Technology Development Co. Ltd. in the People’s Republic of China (“PRC”) for two 3D endoscopy imaging systems.
Telepresence(R) Chairman, President and CEO, Bruce Lawrence, said “Shanghai Zhongshan Medical has bought two of the proposed five systems for evaluation within their own hospitals, biomedical engineering departments and for training. We are confident that the trials will go favorably.
“The PRC endoscopic market is a large one and demonstrates a progressive attitude towards new imaging technology, particularly those that are cost-effective. We have made considerable progress in reducing costs to position our system as the most competitive 3D upgrade solution available.”
Minimally Invasive Surgery involves the use of narrow instruments and telescopes called endoscopes which are inserted into the body through small incisions. This form of surgery is widely practiced throughout the world and reduces much of the trauma associated with open surgery. It mostly involves 2D imaging that’s viewed by surgeons on monitors. Telepresence(R) provides 3D imaging so that the surgeon has a natural sense of depth while operating.
