in Supplies at Rescue Sites

Rite Aid Corporation announced today that its customers and associates have raised more than $750,000 in the first eight days of a chainwide fundraising program to help America in its recovery efforts.

Customers can help victims, families and communities affected by the recent terrorist attacks by purchasing $1 disaster relief certificates at any Rite Aid store.

Funds raised will be directed through the National Association of Chain Drugstores Charitable Foundation to benefit groups such as the New York and Washington chapters of the American Red Cross, the World Trade Center/Pentagon Fund and the United Way September 11th Fund.

Rite Aid said that next week it will also give every customer who buys a disaster relief certificate a paper flag with a place for the donor’s name above the words “Proud to help in disaster relief.” The flags will be on display in each Rite Aid store.

“While we can never change what happened, we can help our nation heal by providing funds for recovery and rebuilding,” said Mary Sammons, Rite Aid president and chief operating officer. “Our customers and associates have shown overwhelming support for those whose lives have changed forever because of the tragedy.”

In addition, Rite Aid in the New York City area has donated $25,000 to the New York Fire Fighters 9/11 Disaster Relief Fund and Rite Aid Corporation has donated $25,000 to the United Way September 11th Fund. Stores and distribution centers have delivered more than $50,000 of supplies including water, food, batteries, medical supplies and personal care items to the rescue sites.

Rite Aid associates across the country have pitched in to help with relief efforts. For example, stores in Philadelphia, New Jersey and Maine are serving as collection sites for items needed by rescue workers. As products are collected, they are sent to the terrorist attack sites.

Rite Aid Corporation is one of the nation’s leading drugstore chains with annual revenues of more than $14 billion and approximately 3,600 stores in 30 states and the District of Columbia.
