Protocol Systems Inc.’s Pryon OEM Division Introduces ECG ASIC Monitoring Subsystem

DUSSELDORF, Germany–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Nov. 18, 1999–

Pryon, the OEM division of Protocol Systems Inc., (Nasdaq:PCOL) today introduced an electrocardiology (ECG) Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) monitoring subsystem at the Medica Congress in Dusseldorf.

The new subsystem is small, requires low power and provides a high performance ECG monitoring front-end for integration into patient monitoring devices.

“The ECG ASIC monitoring subsystem represents a breakthrough in miniaturization without compromising price and performance,” said Edward M. Kolasinski, Protocol vice president and general manager of the OEM business unit. “Early response to the subsystem has been excellent with over 12 OEM customers currently evaluating the product and two already placing orders.”

The ECG ASIC monitoring subsystem eliminates over 30 discreet components such as circuits, amplifiers and resistors typically found in an ECG front-end circuitry to form a single 10mm by 10mm, integrated circuit requiring 10 mW to operate. Despite the module’s small size and low power consumption it offers high performance capabilities. The subsystem is application specific, including a neonatal to adult patient monitoring range, 3-or 5-or 12-lead capability, diagnostic quality bandwidths, and pacer detection. It will support impedance respiration, detect lead failures and operate in sleep mode to significantly reduce power consumption. Shipments of the new subsystem will begin in the fourth quarter of 1999.
