PlayStation game console rules the road; road trip dominates scene with games, extreme sports and alternative music
FOSTER CITY, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–May 10, 1996–Road trip takes on a new meaning as Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) teams up its PlayStation game console with Rolling Stone and ESPN’s Extreme Games, for two separate rocking, sporting and gaming events currently sweeping the country.
Experienced gamers and novices alike will have the chance to play some of the PlayStation’s hottest titles, while appreciating the other finer things in life — alternative music and extreme sports — as these promotional tours roll out across the United States.
The Extreme Experience Is PlayStation
ESPN’s Extreme Games 2 championship is all about thrashing one’s opponents in the best contest of alternative sports. Now, arm-chair athletes can crush their videogame competitors in their own “extreme games” while playing PlayStation at the 12-city Extreme Games Road Show. At the festival, athletes, music lovers and gamers will have the opportunity to flex their videogame muscle on PlayStation kiosks featuring Sony titles such as “Battle Arena Toshinden” and “MLB Pennant Race.”
Adding to the road show experience will be athletic demonstrations and alternative music, all designed to crank up the excitement as the Extreme Games 2 competition approaches this summer.
PlayStation Appearing Live and In Concert
The Rolling Stone New Music College Tour is jamming at 13 college campuses across the country, with live concert performances from Deep Blue Something and Marry Me Jane. College gamers will be performing their own videogame act on PlayStation kiosks, checking out the newest PlayStation titles such as “NBA Shoot Out” and “Twisted Metal,” and winning PlayStation prizes including limited edition T-shirts and caps.
“Only with PlayStation can students and consumers alike receive an in-your-face gaming experience,” said Charlotte Taylor Skeel, director of promotions, SCEA. “We’ve been taking PlayStation to the streets with the likes of Rolling Stone and ESPN’s Extreme Games for the ultimate in games, music and sports.”
