Herbert C. Smith is a Northeast Ohio serial entrepreneur with investments in three successful global companies. He travels extensively and has a worldwide network of resources to draw upon to support his business and civic activities. Prior to his entrepreneurial journey, Herb served in a variety of leadership positions in higher education, local government and community based human and social services.
Herb is Founder and Chairman of HC Smith Companies, a retained executive search firm located in Shaker Heights, OH. In business for more than twenty-five years, the company uses a “Rapid Change Recruitment” model.
He is owner and Chairman of Smith International Enterprises, Inc. a product sourcing manufacturing and trading company with offices in Hong Kong and the USA for over 15 years. In 2002 he was selected by the US Chamber of Commerce as a delegate on its first “Investment and Trade Mission China”.
He and his wife Rebecca are co-owners of The Bagsmith a three-year old enterprise that creates, designs and markets a unique line of products to yarn shops across the USA and Canada.
Mr. Smith serves on various civic and professional boards, among them: The Peter F. Drucker School of Management at The Claremont Graduate Universities (Claremont, CA.); JumpStart, Inc. (NEO): The Cleveland Playhouse; Students in Free Enterprise (Springfield, MO.); Advisory Board of the National Black MBA Association Cleveland Chapter; and President, The First Tee of Akron.
Herb holds a Bachelor’s degree from George Williams College in IL, a Master’s Degree from the University of Chicago, and a PH.D from the University of Pittsburgh.
The Ohio Venture Association is a group of northeast Ohio business people dedicated to providing an atmosphere for the interchange of ideas on entrepreneurship, new ventures and venture capital. The Association provides a scheduled forum for this interchange.
