Vault’s New Guide To The Top 50 Management and Strategy Consulting
Firms Reveals Trends and Perceptions in the Consulting Industry
Today Vault, Inc. (http://www.Vault.com) officially releases the Vault Guide to the Top 50 Management and Strategy Consulting Firms, 6th Edition, a 528 -pp. “insider” guidebook to the leading consulting firms, based on surveys and interviews of 1,700 consultants worldwide.
The book includes Vault’s annual rankings of the Top 50 Consulting Firms (consultants rated firms on a scale of 1-10 for prestige, and could not rate their own firm). This year’s survey was conducted between February and May 2003. Below are the Top 10 firms from this year:
Prestige Rank Average Score Firm
————- ————- —-
1. 8.249 McKinsey & Company
2. 7.848 Boston Consulting Group
3. 7.371 Bain & Company
4. 6.432 Booz Allen Hamilton
5. 6.060 Monitor Group
6. 5.801 Mercer Management Consulting
7. 5.552 Gartner
8. 5.528 A.T. Kearney
9. 5.524 Oliver, Wyman & Company
10. 5.314 Roland Berger-Strategy Consultants
Some findings from the rankings:
— The “Big 4” consulting firms are less well-regarded in light
of the scandals their accounting arms suffered – the following
firms all dropped in the rankings: Deloitte Consulting (from
No. 8 in 2003 to No. 11 in 2004), Accenture (fell from No. 9
to No. 12), IBM Business Consulting Services (formerly PWC
Consulting — fell from No. 12 to No. 16) and BearingPoint
(formerly KPMG Consulting — fell from No. 13 to No. 20)
— The merger between Mercer Management Consulting and Oliver
Wyman has boosted the prestige of Oliver Wyman (jumped from
No. 25 to No. 9)
