New SigmaTel Audio CODECs Enable Systems to Be Compliant with Microsoft Vista Premium Logo Program; 4-Channel CODECs Enable Exceptional Stereo Audio Simultaneous with Another Stereo Stream Such as VoIP
SEATTLE — SigmaTel, Inc. (NASDAQ:SGTL), a leader in mixed-signal multimedia semiconductors, announced today the immediate availability of a new family of 4-channel HD Audio CODECs. These high-performance devices (103dB DAC SNR and 90dB ADC SNR) continue SigmaTel’s audio fidelity leadership by fully supporting the upcoming Microsoft Vista premium logo program which requires 4-channel CODECs for two separate capture and render scenarios.
Additionally, a direct on-chip interface allows notebook manufacturers to integrate up to four digital microphones within the LCD bezel to significantly improve voice input quality of Voice over IP (VoIP), instant messaging, and speech recognition applications. Digital microphones eliminate expensive shielded cables and pre-amps allowing more cost effective placement in the LCD bezel, away from notebook noise sources such as key clicks, hard drives, and fans.
“These highly integrated CODECs allow developers to immediately optimize the interactive consumer experience with superior audio and voice capabilities,” said Steve Beatty, senior vice president of SigmaTel’s Integrated Components Group. “Meeting Premium Logo is a challenge for many in the PC industry. SigmaTel provides the superior technical services and CODEC solutions to meet this challenge.”
SigmaTel introduced the first PC Audio CODECs with support for digital microphones in 2005. With the introduction of this family of 4-channel CODECs, SigmaTel’s offering now includes a broad array of HD Audio CODECs with digital microphone support that includes 2-channel, 4-channel, 8-channel, and 10-channel codec families.
Developers can select the STAC9204/05 series without modem support or the STAC9254/55 series that enables a two-chip audio and modem implementation. SigmaTel’s superior service and software support (including support for Dolby(R) technologies and Intel Audio Studio(TM) from Sonic Focus) enable rapid customization and reduced time to market.
