Manufacturer says Durham based Mid-Atlantic STIHL, Inc. is No.1
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–April 12, 1995–The STIHL Incorporated annual meeting concluded with sales and achievement awards for the company’s distributor organization. Awards were presented for overall sales increases in specific categories such as trimmers and chain saws leading up to the most highly coveted award among the distributors.
The STIHL Distributor Of The Year is selected based on a number of management criteria including; sales increases, forecasting, promotional efforts, aggressive leadership and “out of the box” thinking. This year the chain saw and outdoor power equipment company selected Mid-Atlantic STIHL as the top distributor in the country. The Durham, N.C. based distributor covers a territory comprised of North and South Carolina, Virginia, Eastern Tennessee, Southeastern Maryland and Washington, D.C.
Over the years Mid-Atlantic has received numerous awards from STIHL, but this was their first time to receive this recently created and highly respected honor. On hand to receive the award was Mid-Atlantic’s president, Mr. John K. Woody, Jr. Mr. Woody was also selected as the Durham Chamber of Commerce “1991 Small Business Person of the Year.”
Prior to the awards presentation, Mr. Hans Peter Stihl, CEO of the worldwide STIHL organization, congratulated the distributors for their contributions to STIHL’s third consecutive year of record breaking sales. Fred Whyte, President of STIHL Incorporated, and STIHL’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Joe Fahey, then presented the awards and commendations. In accepting the award for the company, Mr. Woody praised the dedication and hard work of all the staff and management of Mid-Atlantic STIHL. “I only wish the entire Mid-Atlantic family could be with me this evening to receive this award. Those of us who are here will never forget this night.”
In addition to the Distributor of the Year award, Mr. Woody also received an award for twenty-five years of service with STIHL. Ellen Gardner, Mid-Atlantic’s CFO, and Ken Howard, Territory Manager for Mid-Atlantic both received recognition for ten years of service. Randy Stanley, chosen from more than 150 STIHL salespersons, was presented with one of six Great Achiever awards. “The Great Idea” award was presented to Mike Preddy, also of Mid-Atlantic STIHL, for his work on the development on what ultimately became an improved heavy duty air filter for STIHL chain saws.
