Federal Express Using NavTech Database with Strategic Direction; The Giant of Next-Day Delivery Plans to Save Time, Money and Increase Customer Service by Using NavTech Data to Plan Routes

SUNNYVALE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jan. 22, 1997–Navigation Technologies Corporation (NavTech), the world’s leading builder and supplier of navigable map databases, announced today that Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) has licensed the NavTech(TM) Navigable Map Database for use in various applications, including Courier Route Planner and other geographic information systems (GIS) applications.

FedEx expects to improve efficiency in its operations using Courier Route Planner, based on the NavTech(TM) Database.

Courier Route Planner (CRP) provides routing feedback to approximately 28,000 FedEx couriers nationwide. The program, developed internally by FedEx, allows drivers, managers and dispatchers to see routes graphically mapped and analyze stop sequence information; thus enhancing the efficiency of the company’s pick-up and delivery operations. FedEx is integrating the NavTech(TM) Database into their next generation CRP to increase the quality of their application.

“NavTech’s address range accuracy and road restriction data is outstanding,” said Joe D. Hinson, Vice President of Global Operations Planning for FedEx. “FedEx provides time-definite delivery and therefore requires the highest quality, most up-to-date street map database available. I am very pleased with the relationship FedEx and NavTech have established.”

According to Matthew J. Bannick, President of Navigation Technologies North America, “NavTech will provide a valuable tool that will enable FedEx to improve efficiency of its operations. We are pleased with our relationship with FedEx and look forward to working with them.”

Federal Express is the world’s largest express transportation company providing fast and reliable services for more than 2.7 million items to 211 countries each working day.
