New in-building broadband company takes shape with executives

from the telecommunications industry

Everest Broadband Networks, a provider of high-speed Internet access and advanced broadband services for commercial and residential buildings and hotels, has inaugurated its key business strategy by establishing a distinguished team of managers from the telecommunications industry.

Everest’s team of experts brings a vast array of experience in high technology and telecommunications, hailing from some of the world’s most distinguished and successful providers of equipment and services.

Leading the Everest technical team is Alan J. Scrime, executive vice president of network and communications services. Mr. Scrime joins Everest from Bell Atlantic’s Data Solutions Group, where he was executive director of product development. His career spans nearly 35 years in the telecommunications industry, including senior positions with NYNEX, AT&T, Bell Laboratories, and Bellcore. Mr. Scrime holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Union College in Schenectady, NY, an M.S. in Computer Science from Rutgers University, and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Dr. Rashmi Doshi will drive Everest’s technology solutions as chief technology officer. Dr. Doshi was previously an executive director of Bell Atlantic corporation, where he was responsible for the development of advanced high speed data communications networks, including Bell Atlantic’s DSL (digital subscriber line) networks. Dr. Doshi has more than 25 years or experience in the research, design, and development of communications products and systems. He has also held positions with IPC Communications Ltd., Nortel, and British Telecom. Dr. Doshi was a research fellow at Imperial College, University of London, and holds a B.S. degree from the University of London and a Ph. D. in Electronics from the University of Southampton, England.

James Szeliga, former vice president and general manager of North American operations for Orckit Communications Inc., directs Everest’s marketing effort. Mr. Szeliga has more than 25 years of experience in high technology, including positions as director of marketing for General DataComm, president and CEO of Applied Spectrum Technologies and General Manager of Local Digital Distribution Company, a provider of wireless TDMA systems for the local loop. Mr. Szeliga received his Master of Technology Administration from American University, Washington D.C.

Principal responsibility for building and maintaining the Everest network falls under Hamid Modarressi, vice president of network operations. Prior to joining Everest, Mr. Modarressi was vice president and CIO of Bell Atlantic Global Networks, Inc. Prior to Bell Atlantic, he served as executive director of NYNEX Science & Technology, where he was in charge of the development of advanced network management and engineering systems. Mr. Modarressi holds both a B.S. in electrical engineering and an MBA from Columbia University.

Corporate strategic alliances, partnerships and acquisitions are the responsibility of Joseph Varello, vice president of corporate development. Mr. Varello has more than 13 years in product management and new product development. As a director at Bell Atlantic Internetworks, Mr. Varello was responsible for developing and marketing IP-based application services for the commercial marketplace. Mr. Varello received his B.A. in communications from Towson University.
