BELLEVUE, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sept. 18, 2002
Apex Learning, a leading provider of online courses and instructional materials for high schools, today announced the appointment of Cheryl Vedoe as President and Chief Executive Officer. Vedoe will join the company on September 23.
Vedoe, a seasoned technology executive, has extensive experience in the education market, most recently at Apple, where she served as vice president of education products and marketing and president of PowerSchool. Vedoe was also a founder and the CEO of Tenth Planet, which she helped to build into a recognized leader in classroom technology.
“With Cheryl’s experience as a general manager and knowledge of educational technology, she is the ideal leader for Apex Learning as the company accelerates its efforts to help states, school districts and schools successfully use online learning to improve student outcomes,” said Stephen Distler, managing director, Warburg Pincus, and Apex Learning’s chairman of the board.
Vedoe, who previously served as the president and chief executive officer of Post Communications and also held senior management positions at Sun Microsystems, will lead Apex Learning as the company enters its fifth year of providing quality online instructional content for high schools. Over the past four years, 25 percent of U.S. public high schools have used the company’s online courses, instructional resources/materials or test preparation products.
“Technology has fundamentally changed the opportunities available for students to learn,” said Vedoe. “Apex Learning is well positioned to lead this change by ensuring all high school students have access to quality online education experiences.”
