“Boy Meets World” Stars Will Friedle and Matthew Lawrence Team Up With Emmy Award-Winner Rhea Perlman as Production Begins On “H-E-Double Hockey Sticks!” for Airing On “The Wonderful World of Disney” in the 1999-2000 Season On ABC
BURBANK, Calif.–(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)–May 10, 1999–
Will Friedle (“Boy Meets World,” “My Date With the President’s Daughter”) and Matthew Lawrence (“Boy Meets World,” “Angels in the End Zone”) are joined by four-time Emmy Award-winning actress Rhea Perlman (“Cheers,” “Matilda”) in the two-hour telefilm “H-E-Double Hockey Sticks!” to air on “The Wonderful World of Disney” in the 1999-2000 season. Shooting on location in Vancouver, Randy Miller directs from a script by David Kukoff & Matt Roshkow based on the opera “Griffelkin” by Lucas Foss.
In the film Friedle stars as Griffelkin, an apprentice devil who has studied for an eternity at the Beelzebub Vocational Institute run by Beelzebub herself (Perlman). “Ms B” is frustrated by her pupil’s unsatisfactory progress in his devilish studies and eager to rid herself of her slacker student, so she dispatches Griffelkin to the surface. His mission: obtain the soul of Dave Heinrich (Lawrence), the hot shot rookie sensation on the Delaware Demons pro hockey team who aspires to be the youngest player ever to win the Stanley Cup. But once Griffelkin is transplanted to the land of the living, the ne’er-do-well ultimately finds himself questioning his mission’s objective.
Now in his sixth season as Eric Matthews in the TGIF mainstay “Boy Meets World,” this is Friedle’s second outing for “The Wonderful World of Disney” having previously starred in “My Date With the President’s Daughter” last season. He can also be heard as the voice of the new Batman in the WB animated series “Batman Beyond.”
Lawrence is currently in his second season starring as Jack Newman on “Boy Meets World” alongside Friedle. Among his first acting jobs were regular roles on the series “Dynasty” and “Sara,” starring Geena Davis. Lawrence has appeared as the younger sibling to real-life older brother Joe on the series “Gimme a Break” and was called upon to play a young Joey on “Blossom.” Prior to joining “Boy Meets World,” Lawrence starred with real-life brothers Joe and Andy in the comedy series “Brotherly Love.” Like Friedle, Lawrence is no stranger to “The Wonderful World of Disney,” having starred in “Angels in the Endzone.” On the big screen he was seen in “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” and “Pulse.”
Perlman is best-known to television audiences for her role as the saucy barmaid Carla Tortelli on the long-running hit series “Cheers,” for which she earned four Emmy Awards. She has also starred in the feature film “Matilda” and was most recently seen in the 1998 television movie “Houdini.”
“H-E-Double Hockey Sticks!” is produced by Hockey Sticks Productions, Ltd. in association with Walt Disney Television for “The Wonderful World of Disney.” George Zaloom is the executive producer with Jeffrey Lampert as producer.
