AirTran Airways Chooses Avborne Heavy Maintenance, Inc. to Provide Heavy Maintenance for New Boeing 717 Fleet

Avborne Heavy Maintenance, Inc., today announced that it has signed an agreement with AirTran Airways (AMEX:AAI) to provide the airline with heavy maintenance services for its new fleet of Boeing 717 aircraft. The airline industry’s first-ever 717 “C” check will be performed this month at Avborne’s facilities at Miami International Airport (MIA).

AirTran Airways is the launch customer for the Boeing 717, today’s newest, most innovative commercial aircraft. AirTran Airways now operates 14 717s and is receiving one new 717 every month for the next 36 months.

Founded in Miami in 1985 as Professional Modification Services, Inc., Avborne is one of the top maintenance, repair and overhaul providers in the United States. This year the company moved to its new state-of-the-art facility at MIA. Avborne provides services to AirTran Airways, DHL, Emery, Pegasus and UPS, and is in the midst of an expansion that will add 100 mechanics to its work force of 650 employees in January 2001.

Avborne Heavy Maintenance, Inc., is this year’s recipient of the Greater Miami Aviation Association’s Aviation Company of the Year Award.

The Greater Miami Aviation Association recognized Avborne’s contribution to the local economy. Henry Alvarez and Tom Chamberlain of Avborne were awarded the Wright Brothers Award for their lifetime achievements.
