WHAT: As part of Latino Heritage Month, Los Angeles City

Officials, the Mexican Consulate and the Latino

community celebrate Mexico’s battle cry for independence

with a symbolic re-enactment of “El Grito” and a live

concert, featuring top Latino performers such as

Mariana Seoane, Jimena, Los Elegidos, Mariachi Reyna de

Los Angeles and many more. “El Grito” commemorates a

Mexican tradition dating back to 1810 when Father Miguel

Hidalgo y Costilla, in the town of Dolores in the state

of Guanajuato, Mexico, gave the signal that initiated

the successful war for independence against the Spanish

colonial government.

CREDENTIALS:

— Media Walk-Through: A meeting and walk-through will

be held Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. The

meeting will take place at Los Angeles City Hall,

Spring St. Steps.

— Access: All media will have access to a pool feed

for both video and audio. The City’s Channel 35 will

provide a clean feed to the Hollywood Hub via SBC.

Additionally, positions for the media platform will

be assigned during the September 14th walk-through.

— Credentials: Event media access credentials will be

distributed at the September 14th meeting and the

day of the event.
