Pokemon cards prove too tempting for Kuala Lumpur teacher

KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 Kyodo

A Kuala Lumpur kindergarten teacher has been ordered to post a bond of 6,000 ringgit (about $1,580) and be of good behavior for three years for stealing a 45.90 ringgit pack of Pokemon game cards for her pupils, the New Straits Times reported Wednesday.

According to the newspaper, Catherine Ooi Kah Ling, 25, removed a set of Pokemon cards from its box, slipped them into a shopping bag and then placed the empty box back on the display shelf.

But she was stopped by a house detective as she left the store.

Ooi pleaded guilty in Kuala Lumpur magistrate court to theft of the cards, leading to the court order being issued.

Her defense lawyer told the court Ooi intended to give the stolen cards to the children in her kindergarten class.
