China raises 2005 GDP growth to 10.4%

BEIJING, Jan. 23 Kyodo

China has adjusted upward its economic growth figure for 2005 for a final time to 10.4 percent, according to a statement from the National Bureau of Statistics released Tuesday.

Gross domestic product for 2005 was adjusted to 18.39 trillion yuan ($2.36 trillion), a figure that has now been raised twice since the initial total was announced in January last year.

Then the government said GDP in 2005 had risen by 9.9 percent. That figure was than adjusted to 10.2 percent growth in August before Tuesday’s announcement adjusted the total once more.

China is set to announce its GDP figures for 2006 on Thursday.
