China pledges $12.4 million in aid to Cambodia

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 12 Kyodo

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao pledged Sunday that his country will provide Cambodia with 100 million yuan (about $12.38 million) in loans and grants for the country’s infrastructure development, an adviser to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said.

The pledge was made during a bilateral meeting in Kuala Lumpur between Wen and Hun Sen on the sidelines of the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Sry Thamarong said.

The package — 50 million yuan in loans and 50 million yuan in grants — will be used for road construction in eastern parts of Cambodia linking the country with Laos and Vietnam, Sry Thamarong said.
