British Midland, a UK carrier, has said it will launch a new name and livery on 1 February. The changes are apparently part of the carrier’s attempts to move out of the European market into the US market, with the airline to start services between Manchester and Washington DC and Chicago from the spring after an absence in the US market of 18 years, according to PA News.
Israel and the USA have reached a liberalised aviation agreement that will allow the countries’ airlines to code-share, according to Reuters. Further details were not provided.
Midwest Express connection carriers Midwest Express Airlines and Skyway Airlines have launched a fare sale for selected markets for travel between 28 January and 20 September. Tickets must be purchased on a round-trip basis before midnight CST on 19 January, at least 14 days in advance of departure. Tickets booked via http://www.midwestexpress.com will receive a 5% discount. Certain conditions apply.
Passenger traffic at Singapore’s Changi Airport was reportedly up by 9.8% during 2000, with some 28.6m passengers passing through the airport. Changi Airport is undergoing an expansion project that will allow the airport to accommodate 64m passengers per year and will also mean that it can accommodate the new A380 aircraft from Airbus Industrie, the European aircraft manufacturer. The expansion and upgrade project is expected to be completed in 2006 according to Reuters.
India’s international airport in Delhi was closed for six hours on 13 January due to poor visibility caused by heavy fog. The airport had previously been shut for 11 hours on 8 and 9 January and 11 hours on 10 January.
A mobile lounge carrying 41 passengers hit a concrete wall at Washington’s Dulles International Airport, USA on 13 January, injuring some 18 people. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority said that some people had sustained back and neck injuries, but that none of the injuries appeared life-threatening, according to Reuters. All of the injured were taken to hospital.
