A new sport utility called the Ford Escape that comes out this fall will be smaller than the redesigned Explorer yet bigger than the Toyota RAV4 with which it will compete. Escape comes in a four-door version only, with the choice of front- or four-wheel-drive and four- or six-cylinder engines. The initial build will be 90 percent V6s and 60 percent 4WD versions.
We’re going to watch market demand to see if we shouldn’t just offer the V6 with automatic 100 percent across the line if that’s what consumers want,” Scott said.
