Orange You Glad It’s Not Purple Again? – orange may be new trend in vehicle color – Brief Article

For the past few years it’s been purple. Hip, cool, deep purple.

“Orange is a statement color. It’s for personality vehicles that require a ‘notice me’ look,” says Terrence Cressy, a marketer for DuPont Automotive in Troy, Mich. So will orange make it onto the top 10 color list? Not in the near future, says Cressy. But it could get there.

Not this year. Think hot, vibrant orange. Editors at Automotive Industries noticed that vehicles at the North American International Auto Show this year were sporting just about every shade of it you can image. From blinding, true orange to tangerine to persimmon, orange ruled. Even the reds were showing a bit of it in metallic highlights and undertones.

Sporting shades of orange were (clockwise from upper right): Plymouth Prowler, Isuzu Rodeo, Pontiac Grand Prix, Honda Model X, Mitsubishi RPM and Saturn Vue.

Orange cars not pictured included Volvo SCC, Camaro Z28, Mazda RX-8 and Dodge Viper.
