Wide-format printer: outdoor printing without solvents

Encad, a subsidiary of Eastman Kodak Company, has released the Encad VinylJet 36, wide-format printer, which enables direct-to-vinyl outdoor printing without solvents. And all output from the printer is given a three-year outdoor guarantee. The VinylJet 36 printer is a 36-inch, 600 dpi, full-colour printer that enables aqueous printing on uncoated or untreated vinyl media. It does this through proprietary Encad technology (AquaVinyl Technology) and DuPont ink (AquaVinyl Ink). AquaVinyl Technology features an internal heater that pre-heats the vinyl as it moves across the platen for ink reception. Then, immediately after the ink is printed onto the vinyl substrate, an infrared lamp cures the ink. AquaVinyl Ink is an infrared-curable ink for the VinylJet 36 printer, which was formulated with a wide colour gamut that does not compromise durability. Because the VinylJet 36 printer is an aqueous printer, it can be operated without special ventilation. AquaVinyl Ink contains 85 per cent less Volatile Organic Compounds than solvent-based inkjet systems in its category. The device prints in four different preset modes from 23- to 55-square-feet per hour. The Flexi-Banner RIP provides sign and banner design software that gives users ICC profiles for popular media.
