Alias shipping Maya 4.5 – Products – 3D software for the Windows, IRIX and Linux operating systems – Brief Article
TORONTO — Alias\Wavefront is now shipping Version 4.5 of its Maya Complete and Maya Unlimited 3D software for the Windows, IRIX and Linux operating systems. Maya Complete 4.5 for Mac OS X is also now shipping.
The new release incorporates a number of major developments, including Maya Fluid Effects which allow users to create atmospheric effects — such as billowing clouds — as well as thick lava- and mud-like liquids, pyrotechnics and space effects. A new Ocean Shader allows users to create realistic oceans through a displacement and shading technique. Objects can have buoyant properties and can react to the simulated water movement.
Version 4.5 also features modeling improvements, along with a large collection of API enhancements. The full range of advanced NURBS and subdivision surface tools is available in Maya Complete, including the ability to convert from subdivision surfaces or polygons to NURBS. Smooth Proxy tools have been added, allowing rapid building of high-resolution geometry with a low-resolution polygon proxy cage.
For the first time, Maya Complete 4.5 is presented on all supported hardware, allowing users running on different platforms to exchange files. Mac OS X users will have access to all the new features from Maya Complete 4.0 and Maya Complete 4.5, in one package.
Maya Unlimited, which in addition to all the tools in Complete includes Maya Fluid Effects, Maya Fur, Maya Cloth, and Maya Live, is priced at $6,999. Maya Complete costs $1,999. Upgrades are $699 for Maya Complete and $999 for Maya Unlimited.
