Three gorgeous new Lark knitting and crocheting guides are highly recommended and lovely picks. Iris Schreier and Luarie J. Kimmelstiel’s Exquisite Little Knits: Knitting With Luxurious Specialty Yarns (1579905366, $19.95) presents 40 original designs for scarves, hats, purses and other small projects even the busiest knitter can enjoy. While the designs are truly modern, relatively little in the way of demanding stitches is required: you can use cashmere or other fancy yarns to create lovely new-looking style with this excellent guide. Fatema, Khadija and Hajera Habibur-Rahman’s Gorgeous Knitted Afghans: 33 Great Designs For Creative Knitters (1579903533, $24.95) narrows the project focus to afghan quilts–and to those inspired by Middle Eastern arts. These projects, too, focus on the new versatility offered by new yarns with different textures, but use the lovely Middle Eastern motifs to produce unique, unusual designs. Previous knitting basics will aid in understanding the knitting directions and charts. Kids even have something to try with Jane Davis’ Crochet Fantastic Jewelry, Hats, Purses, Pillows & More (1579904777, $19.95). Plenty of contemporary styles and projects–including cd cases–lend to projects which are colorful, attractive, kid-friendly and easy for beginners. Plenty of color photos of kids crocheting pack the presentation.
