Paz Vega: this bullfighter’s daughter is setting her sights on the red cape of Hollywood – Movie Heat – Movie Review

Given the attention that Paz Vega has received for appearing nude onscreen, it’s no surprise when the earthy Spaniard says, “I’ve never been shy.”

“But I actually don’t enjoy being naked on film,” explains the 27-year-old, whose 2001 erotic drama Sex and Lucia has been called an Iberian Last Tango in Paris (1973). “I have to balance the importance of the scene to the film, and the film to my career.”

Fittingly, carnal attraction is at the center of Vega’s latest project, The Other Side of the Bed, in which she takes on a new challenge: singing and dancing. Unfolding like a randier version of Everyone Says I Love You (1996), the romantic farce, which follows the amorous adventures of several young madrilenos, is punctuated by musical sequences set to 1980s Spanish pop songs. Vega is both charming and silly, with great comic timing.

Now this daughter of a matador has her sights set on Hollywood, like Antonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz before her: “It’s the temple of the industry. If you’re in film, you must go there.”
