Chi-ying Hsieh – Emerging Artists – artist combines landscapes, portraits – Brief Article
Chi-ying (Stone) Hsieh juxtaposes people and nature creating landscapes and portraits that explore people in their living surroundings. Working with oil, mixed media and Chinese ink, he melds the translucent pigment quality of Eastern painting with the Impressionist brush strokes of Western painting.
“My fascination with the relationship between people and nature keeps me working on both portraiture and landscape,” he said. “The connection between humans and nature is not only physical but also spiritual. There is a supreme spiritual existence in nature; the spiritual existence influences and echoes in the human spirit.”
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Hsieh earned a B.F.A. from the Chinese Culture University in Taiwan and an M.F.A. in painting from Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga. He has exhibited his work at the Sun-Yat-Sen Memorial Hall and the Alexander Annex Gallery in Savannah.
Hsieh currently resides in New York and can be reached at (212) 472-4369, via e-mail at email@example.com or visit his Web site at www.geocites.com/chiyinghseih.
