Artists Go Back to School for Artexpo California – Brief Article
SAN FRANCISCO–Kicking off the International Artexpo California fundraising effort for Youth Arts/SF, four international artists came to the Bay Area to meet with Mayor Willie Brown and San Francisco school children over the summer.
Presenting Mayor Brown with examples of their artwork were Alfred Currier, Michael Kungl, Deborah Haeffele and Morton Beebe. These artists and others then returned to San Francisco in September to teach their craft to children in the San Francisco schools. Art created during these school workshops was incorporated onto Levi jean jackets, which will be auctioned in a silent auction to benefit the Youth Arts/SF, at the Gala Opening of International Artexpo California Nov. 2.
Artists who are participating in the jean jacket program include AJ Sky, Edna Hibel, Barbara Mc Cann, Federico Domondon, Michael Kungl, Morton Beebe, Michael Godard, Miho Simunovic and Sonja Kouyoumdjian. In addition to these artists, more than 50 others have donated original art to the Nov. 2 auction.
International Artexpo California will be exhibiting the work of hundreds of artists who will attend from around the world. Attendees may partake in numerous events, free seminars and demonstrations.
Youth Arts is a community collaboration that builds awareness, accessibility, participation and a sustainable commitment to K-12 arts education.
